What's New on PIL: September 2026

Four new features are live for all PIL users on the web app as of today. Here is what shipped and how to use it.

  1. Know before your balance runs out

Wallet low balance alert

Running out of wallet balance is one of the easiest ways for a payment to fail at the wrong moment. You can now set a threshold on your USD wallet, and when your balance falls below it, PIL sends you an email and an in-app notification showing the threshold and your current balance.

The alert fires once when you cross the threshold, not once per transaction. It resets automatically when your balance recovers above it. You can change or turn off the threshold at any time from wallet settings.

Card low balance alert

The same alert, per card. Set a threshold on any individual card, and when it falls below that level, everyone assigned to the card gets notified. You can apply the same threshold to all your assigned cards at once rather than setting each one separately.

  1. Automatic card top-up

Available per card alongside the low balance alert. When a card falls below its threshold, PIL moves a fixed amount from your USD wallet onto the card automatically.

A few things worth knowing: the top-up draws from the wallet of the person who set it up. If that person leaves the organisation, loses their card assignment, or has their account deactivated, the automatic top-up switches off and everyone assigned to the card is told why. If the person who set it up does not have permission to fund cards, PIL raises a funding request for approval instead.

If you manually move money off a card back to the wallet, PIL will not trigger a top-up. Moving money off a card is treated as a deliberate action, so PIL raises the low balance alert and leaves the balance where you put it.

Automatic top-up carries the same fee as funding a card manually, charged per top-up. The exact figure is shown in the product before you enable the feature.

  1. Stop specific merchants from charging your cards

You can now block specific merchants on individual cards. The block is applied at the card issuer level, which means the merchant cannot charge that card at all — not just that the charge will be declined on your end.

Blocked merchants appear in a list on the card with the date each was blocked. You can unblock any merchant at any time. The merchants available to block are drawn from that card's own transaction history, so you are choosing from businesses that have actually charged the card.

One more thing

The interface for setting daily, monthly, and per-transaction limits on cards has been redesigned. It now tells you clearly when a figure falls outside the permitted range, rather than letting you submit and failing without explanation. If you have set card limits before, the experience is cleaner now.

All four updates are live in PIL now. Log in to your PIL account to explore them.
